Ortaca is located in the east of Muğla province. Köyceğiz in the west and north, Dalaman in the east and the Mediterranean in the south. The main highway between Muğla and Fethiye passes through the north of the district. It was formerly a town of Köyceğiz, but in 1987 it became a district.

Dalyan, a natural wonder and world-famous, is a town within the borders of Ortaca district. The district has many important tourist attractions. Ortaca is one of the most beautiful districts of Muğla Province. Ortaca, which is on the border of the Mediterranean and Aegean Region, is at equal distance to İzmir and Antalya.
